They talk about the “Keto” flu and the symptoms being Fatigue – Sugar Cravings – Difficulty focusing and Irritability… If that’s the Keto Flu then Declan has it today!

Alarm went off at 5.30am to which Dec responded with a groan followed by “ My eyes hurt.. I’m not going to the gym….”.. Who am I to argue.. I didn’t have the greatest night’s sleep either so I pressed the snooze button and we both got a few more hours of sleep.

A few hours later we rolled over to greet each other with the worst breath ever…. Not your normal morning breath – this was something else and apparently also a symptom of Ketosis.. That got us out of bed for the day with a commitment to hit the gym after work and buy some sugar free mints!

These symptoms are all fairly normal when your body is going in to Ketosis. A quick chat to those who have been on a Keto diet will tell you. The Keto flu doesn’t last long – a few days while the body is adapting to burning ketones instead of glucose. After that the “flu” like symptoms and the bad breath will disappear.

Im coping well but Declan is not! In most conversations today the use of the words Sugar and Beer were mentioned. After we got home after the Gym Dec would have opened the beer fridge at least 10 times as we were cooking dinner. I offered my advice “ Have a meatball… Have some cheese”.. Decs response “ I want Sugar and a Beer!!”

This is by far the worst day for him since the start of the Keto Experiment only 4 days ago. Normally a fairly chilled out guy he is irritable and a bit anxious like and sweating a lot. We both know that its the Keto flu and it wont be long till he is back to his normal self. On a positive note we would say he is most definitely in Nutritional Ketosis today! So that’s a milestone for him on this Keto Experiment.

Im sure he will look back and be happy….. but for now he is a little on a cranky side!

As I finish off todays blog Dec has just yelled at me.. “By the way…. You know what they have just launched? Nutella Krispy Kremes!! I walked in to the 7/11 to pay for my fuel and both counters were stacked sky high with them…. AHHH.. I hate this experiment!
